Christmas Street Party raises £456 for WBIT

We are very happy to report that the Wye and Brook India Trust is ending 2022 on a high with the stall at the Wye Christmas Street Party on 2 December. Our thanks to everyone who contributed and those who bought and enjoyed the goods. The total raised was £456.

We also made the draw for the raffles of the exquisitely crocheted blanket and Michael Hutchison’s painting of Canterbury Cathedral Christchurch Gate, generously donated by Ivor Groves. The two winners have received the blanket and picture.

These two raffles made more than £600 for WBIT funds.

Thank you!

Tickets going fast…..Win this lovely painting of Christchurch Gate, Canterbury Cathedral by a local artist

The gate, completed c 1520, forms the main entrance into the cathedral precincts and is one of Canterbury’s most celebrated and photographed buildings. This view is from within the precincts. The painting is by Michael Hutchison.

“Michael Hutchison is a Kent based landscape artist with a love of flamboyant colour and simplistic style to capture the mood of an environment.”

@ £2 a square. The picture will be on display at the Wye Christmas Street Party on Friday 2 December and the winning square will be drawn at about 7.30pm.  Winner to collect on the night or local delivery within TN25 but sorry P&P not included.

All proceeds from the sale of squares will raise funds for The Wye and Brook India Trust.

Raising Funds at Wye Christmas Street party

On Friday 2 December 2022.

Having a clear out before Christmas?? Do any of you lovely people of Wye and nearby have children’s soft toys in good condition that you would like to donate to a good cause? As in previous years, we will be selling soft toys at the Christmas Street Party on Friday 2 December. We’d love to have anything you can offer. Please email if you think you can help. Thank you!

UPDATE: We have received a lot of lovely quality soft toys – thank you for your generosity. There’s still room for more if you haven’t had your clearout yet!

Beautiful Coffee Table book

An idea for Christmas presents which also support the education of children in the slum areas of Delhi.

“Garden Life Explored” is the latest coffee table book by Wye residents, Geoff and Shelia Chapman.  It is available for £20 plus P&P and all proceeds are being donated to the Wye and Brook India Trust.

The book has about 75 pages of beautiful images with poetry and literary references

During lockdown Geoff and Sheila were enjoying their garden as a place of knowledge. They produced a book called ‘World in a Small Garden’.

Garden Life Explored‘ is a follow-on book. ‘Other books focus on garden appearance but we wanted to introduce the concept of a garden as a community and the interrelationships between insects and plants‘. Gardens can be seen as theatres where the audience is involved in the performance.

Darwin used his garden as a laboratory and his children as his assistants. It would be wonderful for families to do similarly, to see their garden as a place to explore life and to develop a sense of wonder about it all‘.

If you would like to purchase a book (or books!),

please email

providing your postal address.

With Gratitude

Trustees of The Wye and Brook India Trust and members of the Delhi Brotherhood Society remember with gratitude the visits to Delhi and the support for the educational and other work, of both the late Queen Elizabeth II and the new King Charles III.

Visit to Delhi planned

A couple of Trustees of the charity will shortly be making a long overdue visit to see the work of the schools etc firsthand. A report on the visit will be posted in a few weeks….watch this space.

Christmas Street Party – a sellout!

Not much left to sell! Christmas Street Party 2021.

It was a wonderful community event last night and our stall was very well supported.

We sold almost all the cuddly toys so generously donated by children of the village. It’s great that children here give of their precious possessions so that children in Delhi can have much better life chances. Thank you all.

We almost sold out of biscuits and handmade Christmas decorations too – and in the end made £265 to send to the schools in Delhi in a couple of days.

If you want to become a regular donor, or sponsor a child or just want to know more, do get in touch.

Your involvement helps change the lives of children and young people across the other side of the world!

The Online Quiz was a great success.

Many congratulations to the winning team – the Why Nots? who managed full marks on the section on India – and had put their Joker on that section gaining double points!

We are grateful for all the donations coming in from the Quiz and so far have made £239.66 which will be sent to Delhi in early December as part of our final transfer of the year.
